I was curious if anyone knows of any vendors that sell an updated wiring harness with a newer style fuse box (upgrade from the round fuses)? I have the typical main power line issue with my fuse box, could probably use a new wire harness as well, and since my 65 is far from original I figured I would try to "upgrade" it if possible.
Outfits like Painless and Ron Francis make harnesses with modern fuse blocks, but they're generic/universal "hot-rod" harnesses, not made specifically for any production application. For direct replacement, the only choices are Lectric Limited and M&H Fabricators, and they use the original-style fuse blocks with glass fuses.
IMO the easiest way is to add fuses, breakers, and larger gauge lines while retaining original style spade lugs and plastic connectors. I unwrapped my dash harness and upgraded the lines with same color larger diameter wire. I also added plug in connectors to provide additional ignition and accessory lines. Then I ran a 50amp line to the cabin to supply all of that (stereo, electric fuel pump, cruise control, intermittent wipers, etcetera). A generic version of a modified wiring diagram is in the help section near the bottom of this web page: http://home.mchsi.com/~magicv8
The diagram also shows the added breakers and fuses, auxiliary headlamps, electric fan and controller, air horn compressor, and the A-C along with the interior, as part of a one page schematic.
