Default Dash Cluster Question

Does anyone have a picture showing where and how the ignition light and cigarette lighter light attach to the instrument cluster?

Default Lighter and Igition have sockets

It depends on your ignition switch. If it is an original switch, it has a hole in the switch itself. The black plastic(rubber?) socket goes into it. Hard to put in but it goes in.

The lighter light has its own little socket, formed sheet metal that attaches to the lighter socket.

Go online to Zip or other vendors and look at parts for lighter it will show the part. If you order catalogs from the leading vendors, many have diagrams of how parts fit. Good way to see how many parts of your car go together.

If you blow up attached photo of dash parts, look at ignition switch, you can see on top of it a round area, that is where light goes

Your lighter socket (casing) should have little slots for the attachment of the light socket. Put bulb in socket attach to lighter casing. The photo also shows the lighter socket, dark color attach to socket just above ignition switch

I'm sorry. It's for a 64 coupe and I just bought a new harness this week. The old harness I think was a replacement also, but the lighter bulb was not attached and the ignition light housing was attached, but i did'nt take a picture of it and i can't remember where or how it attaches to the cluster.

Are not sure of how the bulbs attach to the lighter casing and the ignition switch or how they (switches attach to the cluster) ?

bulbs are inserted into the socket on harness (ignition) then socket into switch, switch goes into cluster if out of cluster, need to screw into cluster, take out lock first, pin hole .

see this post of mine it may help

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...made-easy.html

Lighter bulb goes into socket on harness, socket into metal shield (dark colored item in photo attached to lighter casing) casing then goes into cluster

You should get a wiring diagram of car, all wires are color coded

Let me know if this info helps tell me (us , forum) if cluster is out etc.

Don't hold me to this, but as regards the ignition switch light, I think it may depend upon the year model of your car. Later ones were built into the switch housing, I THINK . . . .

I guess we all have too much time on our hands today to be online this much

Jack

Ps,

Speaking of thinking, I just remembered that is was not you who called me a (no country boy) because I said I was taking a seat to crap in the woods with me on my cross country trip. He suggested a corn cob or leaves.. He was from Iowa, I think... I think I will stick with my seat!

Thank you for the reply and explanation. The cigarette lighter light works just as you discribed ,but the ignition switch does'nt have a place for the bulb there is a small steel bracket that goes somewhere near the switch .I can't figure out where it goes.I know I'll kick myself later but for now just want eo get it back together correctly. The cluster is out.And I'm going to put a fuse on the lighter wire, then its ready to go in.

Fuse on lighter wire ? That is fed I believe from a fuse on panel (on my 66)

Now that we know it is a 64, some one with a 64 will give you the location

Mine is a 66 with the socket in the switch.

Yep, that's as I was remembering. There was a post recently regarding a similar question as to where the clip locates on the ignition housing. Hopefully, someone will have a picture for you. You might meanwhile try using the search function to see if you can bring anything up. Sometimes some of the suppliers also have diagrams or photos in their catalogs, might try there.

And for Jack, no it wasn't I who suggested foregoing your seat in the woods on your cross country trip. I'm the country boy who you thought knew everything, remember??? Sorry to disappoint you!!

And you're probably right, we must have too much time on our hands to post so frequently!!

(PS You might try bringing up the Eckler's online catalog, it seems to have some good photos of the '63-'64 ignition switch)

Nope. The lighter circuit was unfused until 1967.
