Default alt. mount

While trial fitting my alt. ('67 427 no p/s), I noticed the holes for the long bolt are 2 different sizes. The front hole being 3/8 and the rear hole larger. Is there a bushing for the rear hole or is this the normal set-up? Thanks

If you are talking about the pivot bolt for the alternator, there should be a split steel sleeve pressed tightly in the rear hole. It slides forward when you tighten the bolt and nut, but must be fairly tight in the hole, as it holds the alternator in place. Inside hole will be 3/8", and it is about 1/2- 3/4" long. This allows for loose tolerances for assembly. Check hardware store. Rich

See your Assembly Manual, section L36, sheet A3, item 11 (spacer, P/N 3831946).
