Default ECL decode help needed

'65 roadster, S -body 49xx, April '65 completion.

Trim Tag carries "BA" ECL after the 426 trim code.

What does the "BA" tell me about how this car was configured when new?

Thanks in advance and maybe one day Santa will bring me Al G's book.

Mike,

As per Noland Adams, convertibles with trim code 426 -silver vinyl and ECL BA:

used with: base units

not used with: A31, M35, N03

So you wouldn't expect to see power windows, powerglide or big tank (obviously).

Default Saw Noland's book but it wasn't clear

"base units", what does that signify? 250hp/3 speed/non posi? Can't believe there were many cars built this way.

Plus, this car has factory A/C, power steering and M20, so it's not a base car, and clearly the interior trim is affected by having A/C... ???

Edit: Hmmm, maybe I'll take that comment about the A/C back. The dash fiberglass is different, but the soft trim and the console (w/o shift pattern plate) are NOT affected. So the "base" designation means the base TRIM, not a base CAR. OK I think I've got it now.

Soft top/hard top/both tops: does the BA give us any info on the as-delivered top config??

Mike:

Info is from Al's Book on TRIM TAGS:

For 1965, code 426 BA indicates Silver Vinyl for a convertible. Includes "base"and excludes "A31 and M35".

However, on Page 53 is the following quote: "Several authenticated 1965 Corvettes with 426BA Silver Vinyl interior trim designation have been confirmed as being built with excluded options. Some 1965 426BA Silver Vinyl Corvettes with authentic trim tags may be properly considered to have no restrictions as to the presence or absence of interior options. This note confirms that, on occasion the 426BA Silver Vinyl exception code may have been treated as if it was 427BA Silver Leather with respect to restrictions."

And 427BA is listed as includes "no restrictions" and excludes "no restrictions".

I guess it means with 426BA Silver Vinyl "anything goes".

Default Thanks guys!

Appreciate the help!

So the Trim ECL won't indicate what style top the car came with.

Isn't there something wrong with the build date compared to the serial number? Anything with a 49XX number is said to be built in Dec 64 not April 65. In fact even the 94XX units have a build date of Feb 65 not April.

The 49XX is the St Louis Body Number. There are different body numbers for coupes and for convertibles, AND for St Louis built and AOS built.

Default Body # vs VIN

the S49xx is the body sequence number. The car is VIN 153xx completed in April 65, same as the body completion month.
