Default Side pipes yet again.

I put this on another thread (I guess it was considered a hijack) and didn't get an answer, so I thought I would start another new thread in hopes someone can enlighten me.

I just installed the covers on my '63 and it looks killer.

For those of you that just put on side pipes, what are you using for exhaust manifolds? I now have full headers and they exit too far aft of where they should be to use side pipes.

I would really like to have 2.5" ceramic coated shorty headers for looks, but all the suppliers tell me they won't bolt up to side pipes without some modifications. I guess they don't exit the same place as the stock rams horns.

Did you have to have a spacer made for where the heat riser used to be? I would appreciate any help you can give me on what had to be done so I can enjoy that sweet sound as soon as possible.

I really don't want to go to original style rams horns, but I will if that is what it takes. Thanks.

I bought some JBA shorty's that look like they will tie right into the side pipe. If we get as far as the exhaust this weekend after dropping the engine and drivetrain into the frame, I'll post some photos whether it will or won't work without cutting. I'm keeping my toes crossed

Default Side Exhaust with Headers

Not sure this is what you are looking for. Modification to length of the pipe. Weld collector adapter to side exhaust pipe. Not what I would call major. Stock side exhaust on 64 coupe with 68286 Hedman ceranic coated headers. See pictures. Hope this helps. I like the sound

Pretty sure he's referring to under car headers. The collector is too far aft to tie them into side pipes without some serious plumbing work.

Hi John,

A bit OT but I have to thank you first.....I saw your thread a week or so ago with the pictures where you were asking bout what needed to be cut, keyhole, hangers....used that thread to do my pipes! As soon as I got em I just had to put one side cover on just to get a feel and that kept me happy for a day!! Making that keyhole in the frame was an effort (not as much as getting that last thin side molding on though). Sorry I have stock manifolds but wanted to say thanks!

Thanks Wendell, it's not that it is a major mod, it's that I would like to bolt on the exhaust system and not have to have the car trailered to the muffler shop.

The shops do not want to install the headers, and if I do them at home, I would have to either trailer it or drive it there with open headers.

I can't believe that they don't make a shorty header that has the same exit point as the original rams horns. It seems to me there must be a demand for a header that just bolts to the stock side pipe cars just like they make for almost every other car I've owned.

Your type headers won't work for my application. I want to also keep my under car exhaust and add electric cut-outs so that I can switch between the two. The full length headers prevent doing that.

The only way you're going to achieve that is to use stock ram's horn exhaust manifolds. Doesn't matter whose headers you use - all of them will require custom pipe work and welding to install sidepipes.

Default Side Exhaust

I remember a post here some time back about an outfit that made headers that come out at the same point as stock. This may have been it. http://www.mcjackscorvettes.com/McJa...C2_Headers.htm Still going to take some plumbing work to get what you want to accomplish. Lucky I guess. I have a Mig Welder.
