After you've mounted the spring and snugged down the 4 bolts, place your jack on top of the frame crossmember above the spring end and pull the end of the spring up far enough to install the spring end bolts. I used a couple of wraps of cargo tie down strap along with small pieces of wood c-clamped to the spring to keep the strap from slipping on the spring.

Do NOT fully-torque the four spring plate bolts until the car is either back on wheels, complete, at normal ride height, or unless you compress the spring first as noted above - until the main leaf is flat. If you torque those bolts with the spring hanging free, you stand an excellent chance of breaking the rear ears off the diff cover.

If you are using the original rear end differential cover....DO NOT TORQUE the four center mounting bolts until you have the body back on. If you try to torque them without the added weight of the body and fuel in the tank, you CAN break the two outer ears of the cover off because you are trying to compress the spring by using the bolts instead of having the weight compress the spring correctly for you. I usually wait to torque these bolts when the body is back on when I do my restorations. Just snug them like what was earlier mentioned. .
