Default Replace drivers side dash pad

I want to change the dash pad on the drivers side of my '64 coupe. I have not done this before and would like to know the best way to do it. Can it be done without taking out the center dash? Once I take out the glove box, is it necessary to take out the radio and clock? Thanks in advance.

You will need to take out the cluster, radio , and clock.

Even then, it may wtill be very hard to reach the 2 bottom clips near the console, but it can be done.

When yopu get these parts out that were earlier posted. When you go to uncage teh factory clips you will need a very thin flat blade screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver in the middle of the two flat tabs of the clip and try to begin to spread them apart. When you get them spead apart enough the clip will fall out and you will now see how it works. Be careful because compressing and separeting these clips several times can cause them to snap in two pieces like I have done several times when trying to get the pad re-installed and missing the backing of the dash pad. The retainers at the radio area are really a pain but you can carefully twist them in order to make it so you can insert your screwdricer from the side of the clip because trying to go straight in at it is very hard to accomplish. If you are installing new pads and have problems in getting the holes to line up at the radio area, give me a call and I can tell you how I have figured out how to do this because the holes that are often times drilled into the backing are off just enough to make it impossible. And... you have broken a dozen clips or so trying to install it I guess I will hear from you. GMC "DUB"

Let me correct a mistake I made on my original post. I want to change the dash pad on the passenger side (right side) NOT the drivers side as I put in the original post. Sorry about the mistake.

Passenger side much easier.

Remove the glove box for access.

The hardest clips to get to will be the bottom 2 near the radio.

Take the radio out, remove the drivers side plastic covering for the radio and you should be able to get direct visual access to them - looking at them from the drivers side foot well.
