Default Cutesy location info

Why do some people put some sort of "cutesy" info in the location field for their profile?

I have seen things like "Where I live", "Anywhere USA", "My Home Town", etc. (you get the idea).

Ladies and gentlemen, a real city and state helps a lot, especially when you are trying to sell something. Potential buyers need to know where the item is, so they can figure out things like shipping, travel costs, etc.

Please stop with the cutesy locations.

OK, off my soap box now!

Location: Irritated that I have to keep asking for location of things for sale, USA!

what is important to me - is that I know where I am.

If I'm dealing with a seller, they know where I am.....

"Going too fast over the hill" is where I am.

If I ever need to sell something I'll specify my location, or you can go to my web site and look at my house.

PS: The missing info that bugs most of us is the year
and options of the car some one is asking for help with.

PPS: That used to appear in CF profiles, but I don't see it anymore

The real point is that if you are selling something, tell us where it is!

If you don't want to tell us where you are, I'm OK with that. You can be on Cloud 9. I'm good with that too.

We can usually figure out where you are based on the location info in your profile. Sometimes, people with cutesy locations will post the actual location of the item in the ad. That works as well.

Every now and then, we get the "cutesy location" combined with the "no location of the item for sale".

We also occasionally get the "no location of the item for sale" combined with a blank location field.

What I am saying is "Please list the location when you post an item for sale".

I can't even recall which ad got me started on this now!

Especially if they say "will not ship, local pickup only" then don't give a location.

I didn't think about that.

Reminds me of one of my favorite car part ads: Headers, $50.

I'm selling a set of 2.5" mainfolds.... they are in my shed in the back yard or stored inside with no geographic location.......

Seen those "locations" once or twice.............

[rant] I don't even try to help posters whose car isn't in their profile (or obvious by their forum name or avatar) and they don't at least specify the year/model in their post -- like everybody knows what they are working on by osmosis. [/rant]

Default The 'C' phrase Sucks

I wonder about 'C' vettes. Questions are asked about Corvettes in this broad term without ever supplying a year of the car their referring to. Contrary to many opinions, they are different. When I see a subject without a year reference included I normally pass on that thread. A 'C' prefix generally means nothing to me and I have had enough Vettes to know they are not the same. ....but whatever....

I do agree with you about posting location, year of car, and as many details as possible. You can never have too much info.

Here are the directions to my house...

You get on the freeway, any freeway, and you get off at the Wilmington exit. You drive 97 miles til you come to a road leading north or south. You don't want to go north, you want to go south. You drive to the Tastee Freeze, and make a left. You drive another 97 miles, get out at the Standard gas station, and ask the man,"Where the hell am I?"

I might be lost after all of that, but I can at least figure out where Durango, CO is.

I know exactly where Durango, CO is...I watched the dreadful forest fires there a few years back through binoculars.. The stately trees on the mountain side were going up like Roman candles, scary and spectacular!

well, I am not one of those guys who fear that posting my car's VIN on a Corvette forum will somehow lead to some shenanigans that will interrupt my title to the car - btw 194675S114316 - but I AM alittle shy about posting a picture of my [pretty easy to steal] 65 Corvette on a public forum, and then give out precise info on where to come and get it.

I do agree that, if I was selling stuff, it would be mandatory for me to post where it the item is shipping from or could be picked up from.

I also agree that what's REALLY important here is advising of the year and configuration of my Corvette, so any questions I have about said car can be answered with that info in mind.

My car info is in my profile AND in my signature

I was up in Portland Oregon that summer, restoring the nose on an ALCO PA passenger locomotive. My house was in Heperus, so I had no problem, but kept in contact with friends, just in case.

One really sad thing about that fire was an insurance company told clients to move their vehicles to a dry lakebed in the area. The fire created a wind/sand storm that swept through that area and wrecked shop on one side of the vehicles there. My buddy had several of these vehicles in his body shop. I remember a very nice 57 chevy that was bare metal and frosted glass, and ruined trim, all on the driver's side.

That doesn't bother me as much as the people who post every kind of vehicle they have and the stuff they've done to it for their signature. I think it's worse on the other corvette site, though.
