what type of tire will give the smoothest ride while keeping with the original or close to original look of the tires?

I don't believe you can have both. The smooth ride is easy to achieve. The only way I know to get the original look is to buy the original size. 6.70 X 15.

The original size and belt construction doesn't handle or track as well as radial constructed tires but they don't ride bad at all.

The answer depends a lot on how you define "smooth ride".

my car is not original so i am not really concerned with that. I drive it at least 3- 5x per week and I am just taking in all the info given to me that can have a positive affect on the ride. I would like to know the best tires size and best handling and or riding tire.

If you're only concerned with ride/handling, that makes the choices easy.

I'd go with a 205/75 X 15 Michelin Symmetry thin whitewall radial. Medium priced, good wear, good ride.

You can even paint that thin line whitewall gold if you're into colors.

You'll get lots of opinions on this.

Hoosier Street TD if you only drive in dry conditions, and only drive less that a few thousand miles per year.

There are several choices available in the 205/75 x 15 sizes that will give you something close to the original look. I agree with MikeM, this is one of the better choices in my opinion.

Another vote for the Michelin Symmetry narrow whitewall . . . I put them on last year (215/70) - love tne look, love the ride and handling. Price is very reasonable.

I see I made an error. The Symmetry is a 70 series tire so you'd have to go with the 215 X 70 size to be close to correct diameter.

A 78 series tires would equate to 205 X 78.

I put Diamondback radial redlines on my 63. I love how they look and the ride is considerably better than the Goodyears that came on the car.
