You don't 'spin out' in the gravel like side-stepping the clutch from a stop. Locking up the wheels while braking doesn't create the same blast of gravel. Did this with two nicely painted '66 Mustangs during adjustments over the years and not a scratch. The alternative is to make nice skid marks/flat spots on your tires locking up on hard pavement.

Of course doing anything on gravel with an air dam is risky.
