Wanting to hookup an Autometer tachometer on a 427 435 hp 67 corvette. With the transistorized ignition is this possible? The negative side of the coil didn't register.

 

Some background information. Car is being restored. Engine is out and on an engine test stand we built. Have the engine wired up with the factory ignition to run along with some aftermarket gauges to monitor. However the tach is the only one I can't seem to get to work.

 

Is the negative side of the coil grounded to the battery that you are using on your test stand?

 

Yes, I ran back to work and verified this with a meter. Also, the diagram I went by when it was wired.

 

Just throwing this out there, but would the autometer tach adapter for distribtorless late model cars do any good. I only ask because it hooks in on the the positive side of the coil and outputs a tach signal.
