What is the proper color/finish should the thermostat housing be on a 65 L79?
Also, my air cleaner has a small male nipple about a 1/4" in diameter with nothing attached to it. Is it for a vacuum line? I have no power brakes/Mark

It connects to a rubber hose which terminates on a metal tube that normally comes out of the bottom of the passenger exhaust manifold.
The hose in question can be seen here, with the end laying on top of the rear fuel bowl. Note that this is not a restored (correctly or otherwise) L-79, so don't look at my filler neck
The air cleaner nipple is the fresh air intake for the original hot-air choke on the Holley 2818.
The rubber hose connects to a metal line that slips into the exhaust manifold at the bottom flange. The fresh air is heated as it passes up thru, in a sealed tube, the exhaust gases. The tube exits at the manifold top, where another metal line then carries the heated air to the choke housing.
So depending on your choke, you may not need all this plumbing at all.

The thermostat housing is painted DULL ALUMINUM on a 65, L79.
