Default C1 Water Pump Installation

I'm having problems with the water pump gaskets leaking on my C1. All the surfaces for the four gaskets are clean with no corrosion. For anybody that has had this problem before on their C1, is it better to use sealant with on both sides of the gaskets or just use clean gaskets without sealant?
Thanks,
Pierre

Gasket tack/sealer on motor mount sides, wheel bearing grease on block and water pump sides.

Use grade 5 bolts (or grade 8 if you wish), install, drive car about 5-10 miles each of two start/drive/cool down cycles, and re torque bolts.

The grease lets the gaskets settle into position with motor torque and makes gasket removal much easier in the future.

Got 30 years out of my last gaskets this way, vs problems without the drive/retorque.

Doug,
How much torque do you use?

3/8" bolts, 35-40 ft-lbs. Loctite is not a bad idea either , on these.

Get 4 carburator studs to align the gaskets, moter mount and pump.
Remove the studs one at a time and install the bolts. Some recommend that you "pre-torque" the pump so that when the moter torques it won't break the seal. I also built a JIG that fit around my oil pan to hold the weight of the engine so I didn't bend my pan.

I also used some gasket sealer on threads of bolts. I believe some of them go into the water jacket...
