Default Diff ID question

I'm back to the well of this collective forum of knowledge ...

The rear end id number on my 66 427 is "1AO122867W"

In my reference manual, the AO is an id for a 3.70 positraction but there is another designation for a 396/427 of FA, also a 3.70.

Does this mean my diff was originally in a 327 or was there any difference between an AO and FA? Also, does that stamped number indicate the year produced? I can't seem to find that info in my book.

As usual, thanks for any help.

God Bless (and help) America

1AO122867W

AO = 3.70:1 positraction for small block
122867 = Dec 28, 1967 (1968 small block rearend)

Thanks stingray.

I'm guessing it's not a good thing to keep a small block diff with the 427, correct? If not, I guess I'll be looking for the correct one.

Thanks again
Joe
