Help! I've got a 65 that originally had the back up lights. Not now. (I bought it like this) Now the setup is:
outer lights used as running lights, brake lights and turn signals
inner lights used as brake lights and turn signals
My problem is that I have no brake lights on the passenger side. The lights still work correctly for runnings lights and turn signals, but no brake lights. Any ideas? Thanks.

Check to see if you have current to the brake light switch, and if so, check the switch.

If the Brake Lights work on the Drivers side and the turn signals work correctly on both the drivers and passanger sides, I would suspect the turn signal switch. The R/H brake light wiring, sockets and bulbs would be good if the R/H rear turn signals work because it is all the same circuit. The contact in the turn signal switch that switches that circuit from R/H brake light to R/H turn signal is probably bad.
I do not think it would be the brake light switch. If there was no current to or from the brake light switch, neither L/H or R/H brake lights would work.
Chris is correct, I missed the part about brake lights on one side only. If they work only on one side, you're not getting current to the inoperative light somewhere from the turn signal switch to the light, or possibly a bad ground on that light.

I have worked on this problem too and I am pretty sure you have a contact in the turn signal switch not making contact. If you don't want to replace the whole turn signal switch, you can just bend the contact tangs. Or do this to check and see if this is the problem before you put in a whole new turn signal switch. I have pictures I can send you of what to look for if you want. Using a test light and small needle nose pliers is about all you need once you get to the switch under the steering wheel hub. Email me direct so I have your address.

I have fixed a bunch of them this way. Just use a little caution as you are dealing with some small little parts. I would try to fix it before I would replace the entire switch.

Just my thoughts,

You can have a failure to ground in the bulb socket as well . . . .
. . . . but likely the turn signal switch . . . here's a picture of the inside of a turn signal switch I just finished working on because of a similar problem.

That was my problem. I just kind of rebent the metal strip around a little and it works. Thanks for all the help and suggestions, everybody.
