Default 62 black interior

I am thinking of painting the interior pieces for my C1:

Top/lower gauge housing
Center console
dash ends caps
package tray
heater console cover.
Radio and defroster bezels
Steering column cover and column pieces
kick panels

with a single stage paint. I have some pieces which I can use to do the color correction. Would a single stage application work for these parts or should I think about a base/clear instead? Also, would a quart be enough paint?

Will the single stage paint hold up the sun with the top down?

I doubt there is any paint strong enough to, "...hold up the sun".
C'mon they used to paint the entire cars with single stage and the paint held up well... I think that is a safe route if that is what you choose to do...

Single stage should do well on those components.

Is there anything I forgot as far as the interior parts? The interior is black. Did you paint your interior basecoat/clearcoat?

Default Paint Question

James, I used the following:
Dash Cluster, Kick Panels, Package Tray, Console, got Base Clear. Every thing else was single stage except end caps which got Krylon. Had to do them three times before I got them on without the screws chipping paint. I finally put some grease on the underside of the head and went real slow. As you know the end cap screws go in fiberglass and will strip very easily. During mock up my screw holes were toast so I made a small metal plate and glassed it in behind the old screw holes. Drilled it and let the screws cut as they go. Caps now fit tight and snug.

Good Luck
Earl

James,

If you are going to do it yourself, I think you may find lacquer much easier to use than single stage. You could even do it with a spray bomb if you wanted and achieve a good result.

Just my $.02

Has anyone tried powder coating the cluster? Not sure if a good idea with potmetal.
