3782870 Casting

Default 3782870 Casting

Do all corvette engines have the 2 to the left of the casting number.
ie 2

The "2" is a foundry pattern number - there were MANY multiple patterns for high-volume castings. The 870 block wasn't unique to the Corvette - it was used in millions of passenger cars and trucks too; the block was the same for all applications - only the innards and bolt-on parts made it a "Corvette engine".

But the dates also made a difference if I'm not mistaken. As I have two 1963 Corvette engines that use just the 3 in the date code but I have an 870 block with a date code of 63 which is not a Corvette engine

That's correct - if the date code has two digits for the year portion and there's no plug at 11 o'clock just above the timing cover, it's a Tonawanda block, and they weren't used in Corvettes.
