Default Ratio Question

What rear end ratio would you use on a staight axle car with FI and a standard 4 speed? Mostly in town driving with a few highway trips too. I would like to have the best of both worlds. Neither is matching numbers, but I'm sticking with the 4 speed. Thanks

3.36 coupled & a wide box is a good combination.

That's the combination I run and really like it. I have a 60 series tire so that changes things a little. If you run standard size tires and are mostly city driving you might like 3.50s. I travel in mine that's why I went with the combo I did.

If you are running a high rev motor and do mostly around town driving, I would go with 3.50 or 3.70.

Thanks guys. It has a 411 right now, but taching too high for the highway. It's great off the line though. I should have told you that it's a 375HP engine. At 55 it's taching about 3200 rpm. The 3:55 or the 3:70 is what I had in mind in that order. I wasn't sure about the 3:36 with the HP.

3.55 or 3.70 rear ratio with a wide ratio (2.54:1 first gear).

if youre taching 3200 at 55 then your speedo is off or you have more than a 411....

55 mph @3200 would be more like a 4.56.

With about original tire diameter a 3.55 will give you 70mph @ 3000 rpm.
A 3.70 will be 70 mph @ 3200.

The tires are Coker Classic P205/15. We checked the speedo against another car today and it's running 5 mile an hour too slow. I guess I'm actually running 60 at 3200 but at 50 it's about 2900-3000. Thanks for the link Stingray. Pretty cool. I'm leaning more towards the 3:55 I think.

I've got a 3.55 in my 59 with the Coker wide Whites, T-10, 4spd and I find that to be the perfect ratio combo for my driving. I had a 3.36 and swapped it out because it did not have enough zip for me around town.
