I am getting ready to have the 427 built...yes, again..... and I want to see what the consenus says here on what brand of Chevy Orange to use.
I REALLY liked the way the motor turned out with the VHT Chevy Orange, the first time around. But, I've also heard good things about others, like POR 15 Chevy Orange.
So give me your feedback and vote, and we'll see how it turns out.
Here's a pic of the way it looked with VHT before I installed it in the car last go around.
Rob, I have used them all over the years and found one to be as good as the other. When I did the '62 I used Por 15 and found it to be too glossy for originality. Having said that it looks fantastic when sprayed on a show motor. I painted my yet to installed 427 with Seymour Hi-Tech Engine Coating Part # 48 http://www.seymourpaint.com/hi_tech_engine_enamels.html and am very pleased with the results. I like rattle cans for a job like this. Of course this is just my opinion. Don't think I copied the link properly so just type it in your browser.
PS; Saw Dave over the weekend at his Dads. Seems he had a big B-day. Told me he's 34 and "Ready to rumble". Lets see age 34 was 1979 for me and my '67 was only in the seventh grade.

Im rebuilding too.I'll wait on a virdict also.
Don't you hate to install the engine now and just stare at it in the garage!
For many years I used a paint called "Bright Beauty" or "Engine Beauty" or something close that was available at Napa. It was a perfect color and gloss match to the original. No longer available. Everything I've seen now is way too orange (like the above post). I'll give JohnZ's suggestion a try.
FWIW... the last time i painted my engine i used Plasti-Kote #200 and after a while it delaminated my original original paint and has left huge bare spots (to the bare metal...both block and pan)....

Vari-prime, then Cantari Chevy Orange with hardener. Gasoline will not penetrate it. Put just a little flattener in it to keep the gloss down because of the hardener. I use the code for Hugger Orange.
