Wow, I was tuning on my 427 and finally concluded that the new braided plug wires were bad. Installed a set of red MSD 8.5 wires tonight and woke that puppy up!!!
Not that I am interested in swapping out the MSD wires, but any suggestions on any good braided wire solutions??

accel makes a great kit only..you must buy a crimping tool to do it right...problem is...the boots and wire that is exposed are ford blue....im painting mine black this winter!!..lol.....summit has em..
I knew what the engine should run like, because it was built and dyno'd by Cropper Racing Engines. They did not use my distributor and plug wires on the dyno, they used a complete MSD settup. I am considering going with the MSD distributor and 6al box. This is my fun car, built it the way I would have ordered it in 67!!

I once salvaged the braided covers on an old set and fed the new wires thru them. Less than a third of the cost of new shielded wire set.
Keep a set of correct, date coded wires if you're planning to attend an NCRS or similar event.
Otherwise you can salvage the braided shields and slip them over a set of Pertronix 7 mm black silicone jacketed wires. If your correct wire set plug and distributor boots are still in ok shape you can use those. Other than the lack of lettering, the Pertronix wires look like stockers afterward.
Factory wires used graphite impregnated fiberglass for the electrical conductor, and neoprene for the outer jacket. They were quite failure prone and I'd be hesitant to ream the manufacturer for making what was in fact junk to start with.

I did this too my old repro braided wires and new Taylor wires. It's like working a long Chinese finger puzzle. Trouble free ignition afterwards. Your right about the repro braided wires - they are junk - only good for show.
