I posted this in the C3 forum and didn't get any hits so I thought someone here might have tried. I'm replacing the motor and transmission mounts on my car and was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with using polyurathane over rubber. I figure poly is stronger and lasts longer. But since my car rides pretty nice I wouldn't want to add any vibration. Any advice is appreciated.
Poly is much harder than rubber and is designed to eliminate the compliance which isolates powertrain vibration from the frame; using poly mounts instead of rubber will definitely increase vibration and harshness.
...yeah, and i'd add that the puported increase in durability for poly vs. rubber is marketing hype...these cars rarely see the elements anymore....i've used rubber all around and been very happy
I'll add that I used Volunteer Vette products for the bushings ( all they have is rubber ) they had the best prices . used then for WX Striping also, Get the Yellow goo to look OEM
:chevy
I replaced all my bushings late last year and went with rubber based on information from this forum. I have to agree with Kid_Again that most of these beasts seldom see inclement weather much unless caught in the open unexpectedly. My suspension is nice and quiet now....my A-arm bushings were original...mostly dust (not to mention a real PITA to remove!).
MileHigh66 is in the process of redoing his front end, and he is going with poly all around. He is expecting to finish up next weekend, so stay tuned.

I replaced all the rubber on the front end and rear end on my 66 chevelle SS and the ride has never been so good. I've owned the car since 1973 and the car has just the right level of handling with no noticeable harshness in ride. I have now ordered the poly for my 65 vette with plan to install this summer. Make sure they are the graphite ones. They are as quiet as can be. I haven't used them but I'm sure the motor mounts would be just as good.
