Default Some help with build date please

The cars vin is 118415. Now keep in mind this is an AO Smith car. I come up with May 23rd 64 for the build date. Also this car sat untouched from 1978 till I took it this spring.

The eng. which I know has never been out. I spoke to the orig. owner and the second owner who I got this car from. They both told me the motor was never out of the car. I took this motor out myself. I am sure it was never out before I took it out. All the crayon markings where still on the motor inc. the Suffix code and the job number. I have not found a job number on the car yet. I removed the rt door panel and the orig. paper was still there like new but no job nomber on the door. I also looked on the lower firewall on the right side and nothing there either.

Ok now the confusing part. Body build date is E 12 May 12 for an AO Smith car. The build date by the vin.is May 23 64. Ok so far.

The casting date on the block is B24 4. Feb 24 64. The build date on the pad is F0429RC. I come up with May 29 64 250-HP. This tells me the eng. was built 6 days after the car. Don't sound right to me.

How can the motor be 6 days after the build date? How close are the calculators I'm using?

I know an eng. date can be very close and sometimes after the body build date on AO Smith cars.

First let me clear something up I did not find a job number yet. Sorry, thinking of the wrong car.

The book I have says F= Flint, 04= month built May, 29= the day.

I just went out and looked under the rt door panel and the firewall no numbers. yet the markings are still on the frame.

I do not know what BOOK you are looking at but "04" equals the FOURTH month of the year which I think is APRIL. The way I see it is that you do not have a problem.

It sounds like a very original car.

Press on and Good luck.

You have your months mixed up. April 29 is about 13 days before May 12. So, your engine was assembled 13 days before the body was manufactured, and 30 days before the car was assembled. Sounds OK to me.

Almost always find the job number on the bulkhead in front of the gas tank.

No Problem,

Not a waste of time, things were sort of slow last night and I needed something to do for a few minutes anyway. All of us suffer from "Brain Fade" from time to time. It gets worse as you get older. I am now in my 70s and it is a common occurance.

Keep us posted as you find more numbers on your '64. So often these cars have been all changed around by now and it is good to see you have a nice original car.
