For those who may not have seen it, the YouTube link below is to the "Biography of a Sports Car" film produced by GM Photographic of the build and test of the first '63 Corvette prototypes; after Part 1 is done, a box will pop up to click on for Part 2. Neat old stuff.
Wow that was great. I come away somewhat proud of all the effort that went into the C2. I am also glad to see some myths dispelled. The fronts did not lift up and the cars seemed very controlable. I am also came away saying to myself you know maybe Mr. Shelby was able to take a crude English sports car and fit a powerful motor into it enougfh to win races and beat the orginal C2 on the race track. It wasnt because the Cobrs was such a great designed automobile. It was rather its weight that gave it avantage over the C2. This film to me anyway showed me how much better built the C2 was. It also back uo most of what I read in California Screamin about the C2s superior handling over the little Bristol. No wonder so few Cobras were sold back in 1963. It really was not worth the kind of cash Ford was asking no matter how quick it was. Thats my opnion after watching this film anyway. Thanks a lot John.
Very nice, John. That was a treat. Fortunately for GM Dick Thompson stayed with the Corvette; Dave MacDonald moved to the Shelby camp after the Cobras debut at Riverside in late '62.
