Who knows where I can get a QUANTITY of THICK dist shims?
I have used my last thick (.020-.025in) shim that goes between the bottom of the dist housing and the drive gear. I have plenty of thin shims (.005), but I need to locate a quantity of thick shims. They have been long discontinued from GM.

A couple of years back, I was able to get several different shims from LIC. Just called them and they sent me several of variying thicknesses.

Tom,
LIC has the best selection. I just went through this on my car.
I think I have some leftovers. What do you need exactly? Send me an e-mail at nliarakos@ergoseal.com. Would be happy to mail you what I have if you need it.

Tom,
Try Kendrick Automotive (210 333 7150) in Texas. They stock some especially thick shims (up to 0.065) as well as other hard to find distributor set up aparts. They are a racing specialty store. They do have a web site, but I never bookmarked it... I have used them before, and they are good guys!
Also if you can find a high quality one, a 12mm metric washer makes an excellent thick spacer.

The bubba washer I used did not provide a "uniform" mainshaft end clearance, and, it wore out pretty quickly... depositing powdered metal into the oil stream.
Yup... Bubba fer sure.

I admit I have done that in a pinch. But... the shims are parallel ground unlike a "washer" which has varying thickness over the surface area, and shims are also hardened.

Tom, I knew the Bubba comments were coming on the washer... should have known better. I had one in an engine for 15 years and it still had some of the identifying dye on it when I rebuilt the distributor again. It was a very high quality hardened washer, however.
Anyway try Kendrick. They have what you need.. no washers...
