No namby-pamby later model C2 crap.

Get a real (and the original) Corvette!

A real original, that'd be a 6 cylinder Powerglide, right???

Default C2 vs. newer models

When you drive a C2 you usually don't have any problem identifying your car in a parking lot. As well as being different in style, there are often times someone standing next to it either admiring it, or wondering what it is.

Default C3.5

You must get both and become a C 3.5 owner ...

I have both, a C2 and a C5. I enjoy the C5 much more than I do the C2. I'm looking forward to the economy picking up, so a new owner can take it away.

I would not mind a C5 Z06 but here in Norway they are the same in price as a Ferrari

I hope to be buying a Vet here in a year or so and I keep wavering between a modded C5Z or vert (in the low $20s) or a restored C2 (in the low $40s).

What I really, really want is a c2 but the price for what I want (vert with side pipes and knockoffs) is going to kind of tough to swallow. However in 10 years the C2 will still be worth what I pay for it (or more) and I'm guessing the C5 will be worth way, way less than I paid? Then again, I like the thought of better ride quality, more creature comforts, much lower price and having a much newer car with the C5, I just hate depreciation.

Thoughts from the group?

The question I have to ask is: have you driven a C2 or a variety of them or is your interest in this particular marque based on the design and/or history? The reason I ask is that there a lot of people who like these cars, as well as the C1s, but after driving them they are not as impressed as they were before the ride. Don't get me wrong---I like the ride of the C2 but over the years people have become acclimated to more features and ride comfort of their everyday drivers. In essence, the ride they liked thirty years ago when they owned a C2 isn't, necessarily, the ride they like today.

Just drive a few before you make your decision.
Their butts are considerably softer after 30yrs.

Ever maintained a Ferrari over a lengthy time? This is a price no object car. No matter what year. I am a big Ferrai fan. But I am also realistic.

Yup. Can you afford a live in Ferrari mechanic? Those engines sound cool but from a real world practicality standpoint, I'll take the Corvette.

Or what some friends of mine are calling Ferraris for Bamboo racks My Porsche friends that is.

DOH... i agree with 1sttexan... . in the 80s i was looking to buy a 308 GT or a pantera for somthing different from my corvettes. the ferrari was stupud expensive to maintain and way slower than a boss 351 pantera. it was a no brainer for me, i bought the latest pantera and built and modded it to BOSS 351 specs and hot rod stuff added on. it is cheap to maintane (you can buy ford parts anywhere) it is way faster than a 308 and way cheaper.

just for info--i had to add a wing and an air dam to keep it planted between 110 to over 150. with the mods it is a BLAST to drive. i only drive it about once a year now but WHAT A BLAST I HAVE DRIVING IT...: cheers:.

driving a pantera is the bees knees, there is nothing else like it unless you are driving an indy car or a shifter kart..

The Panteras are rust buckets. i have looked at some but every of them have had rust.

A friend of mine have 1982 series 4 or whatever it is called and that car have never seen rain during the years he have owned it.
But now after some years i heard him say that there is showing rust bubbles in the paint on the top of the windshield.
This car was really mint when he bought it and he have pampered it like a baby. but the engine is easy to maintain though.

Also know of some that do the belt services on their Ferraris and they say its not any magic in doing that.Well the engine got to come out. The same with my Porsche. Have to drop the engine to adjust the valves.
Borrowed a Testarossa about a year agoo and i was far from impressed.

I bought one of the first c5 Convertibles in 98 ...Teriffic car- Thrashed the Daylights out of it Sidestepped the clutch and heated up the hides on many occassions Smooth fast and almost antiseptic 15,500 miles still tight... I sold it and went back to my 67 327/350 air roadster....

C2's have real personality!

The machine talks to you- It's hard to describe,

.....ya gotta live it

Well, one thing with tinkering on a C-2 you don't have to worry about is a GD computer system. Now, not having ever driven my C-2 to date (i.e. my project) and knowing what I have in it thus far, when it's on the road and running there won't be a computer or computers to contend with. My '93 Z-R1 has been down since May of last year. I have an electrical short that I think is causing my problem, in that the car thinks (now isn't that an oxymoron) that someone is trying to steal it

Anyway, in dealing with that I found that the fuel pumps are bad. Now, they aren't made anymore, and from a guy who works on LT-5's said that the last time he needed them he ended up paying $2000.00 for them. I was fortunate enough to fine some that were slightly used for $200, but I crapped my pants when I heard the original number for them..

As time goes on I think the newer cars are going to be harder to find parts for. Granted, there are comapnies out there that make electronic components, but I think a good old carb would probably be easier to find in the long run than a computer module for a given car.

How many of the C-1 or C-2 owners, when they needed to look for another engine for their car asked if the "brain" came with it

indeed they were rust buckets SAINT ... mine had tiny rust at the front fenders and behind the PS side door. after cutting out the the rust and mig in new steel it is solid. the unibody had NO rust at all. many were bought with sever rust but mine was not one of them. mine is a solid, rust free car. it has all the mods to do 200 in nevada, out here in cal a 150 blast is enouph for me...

Good one GreaseMonkey!
So what is the op thinking now concerning a C2 or C5?
They are two different era automobiles with different costs to own and operate. Choice of ownership is an individual choice and is a winner either way.
We are fortunate to have a 07 C6Z06 with the 67 C2 Love them both as the new one is great for trips.
Again, either way you have a winner

Default Corvettes and Ferraris

My Ferrari (328 GTS): Will never part with it. The engine is as stout as any mouse motor, after all, it's a Formula 1 engine detuned for the road. With Ferraris, it's all about engine. Balanced to within a gnat's butt, flat crank, solid bottom end, and a sound that'll set you free. Majors are not a big deal and can easily be done by anyone who's comfortable tinkering with a C1/2. Believe it or not, these cars are rock solid and reliable. Like any car, do your homework before buying, be patient, and you can have a competent one in your garage for half what you'd pay for a nice C1/2. I speed up when I see those curvy "S" road signs. Cool factor: +10

My '67 SB: I'll have that honey till the day I die. Continuous tinkering but who cares because working on old chevys is done after a couple of beers on a Saturday afternoon with your buddies, and everyone is an expert and who cares when something's screwed up cause new parts are a buck two-ninety-five and are often just a 5 min drive to Autozone. And nothing sounds better than good old Detroit V8 iron. How can you not love love it. Cool factor +10.

Sorry to dissapoit you but the last Formula 1 engine that was put in a Ferrari road car was the flat 12 of the Testarossa and even when the engine was put in the Testarossa it was outdated.
