Default Rag Joint Torque Spec

I have looked through the archives but I can't seem to find the torque specs on the rag joint. After a joint rebuild I certainly don't want to strip out the threads. Thanks for the info.

The 1963 Corvette Shop Manual, page 9-5, indicates 15-20 lb-ft for the bolts holding the 2 coupling halves together, and 25 lb-ft for the pinch bolts that tighten the coupling to the steering box or column shafts.

I was unable to find a torque setting in my 1965 AIM.

Yeah, when you asked yesterday in your other thread, I dug all through the AIM and didn't find anything.

This morning I thought to check the shop manual, because I knew I'd used a torque spec I got from "somewhere" when I did my 65. The shop manual lists it only for standard steering. The power steering section didn't seem to address it.

That's 'cuz the rag joint came to St. Louis as part of the steering gear (the upper pinch bolt torque shows in the A.I.M., but not the two nuts), and the steering gear was the same for manual or power steering.
