C2s steering damper
Did all 63 to 67's come with a steering Damper???

High horsepower engines with 6 quart oil pan (no room to put steering damper) cars did not..

Might seem obvious, but to be clear, power steering cars did not have either as the slave cylinder did the job.

Assume that you or a previous owner added.......as they were not installed on big block cars from the factory.

What was the reason that they were installed on Small Blocks but not on big block cars? What exactly do they do?

Mine does too-- 67/435 --I installed it about 30 years ago when I had a small block with the big oil pan in the car. It fits with that also.
