I have a 1965 convertable with a 468 bbc stuffed in it. I need to replace the headers the previous owner installed way before I got it. What bolts in easily without banging into my frame and steering linkage? Size can varry as I will replace the entire exhaust at the same time with a good low restriction muffler. What header/muffler system do you fellas reccomend?
I would suggest you search for the phone number of the various header makers and talk directly with them. Make sure you give them the details, especially what heads are on the motor and if you have PS or anything else and other changes in the engine compartment. Your effort may lead you to a custom exhaust shop for the balance of the system. Dennis
They'll go in a lot easier and the 2 inchers. In either case you will have to pull the engine mount bolt on the driver's side and lift the motor off the mount about an inch and a half to get the driver's side header in from under the hood. The passenger side should go in without lifting the motor, but if you're in the mood you can pull both mount bolts and lift the whole motor.
I did this on my '65 with a 427 BBC stuffed in (which I wish I still had, by the way).
You could always run the Hooker sidemounts. Not stock looking but with 2 1/8" primaries into a 4" collector makes for lots of air movement and sound if you want it. I run them on the 555 on my NOM 69.
