Default '63 Wiring Question

After several catch and release Mid-Years, I purchased a very nice '63 Convertible. I want to re-wire the car, for safety and realiablity. What will I need, should I let a shop do it? Any tips. Thanks in advance.

I knew nothing about electrical but was coached by the great guys on the forum to replace my dash harness due to some electrical problems with brake lights etc. It was a lot easier than I thought and the resourses are here to walk you through it. You will have to remove the instrument cluster and the steering column to do it but while the cluster is out you can refurbish it, change light bulbs etc. Recently due to a short in my engine harness, I replaced that one also. Piece of cake. I have not done the rear harness yet but that one looks pretty easy too. Lectric Limited is the vendor of choice for the harnesses. They supply perfect fitting harnesses and are good to work with. Hope this helps in making your decision. Oh, BTW, it is not cheap to have it done at a shop...

If you are sure it has not already been done, then it's a good idea to replace the wires. They are not really designed to last 40+ years. I got mine from 'Lectric Limited' and their schematic is great. If you are patient you can do it yourself; there are lots of wires but nothing magical or too difficult to do IMO. All the wires are color coded for where they go. I would go under the dash, engine compartment, etc and take as many pictures as you can prior to removing the old wires. Oh, Sailor Jerry or Captain Morgan are pretty good friends to have handy also. The hardest part I ran into when I did mine was routing the big loom up under the dash. Replace ALL the wires, not just one harness.
