Default 205/70R15 or 205/75R15 Redlines for 67 smallblock?

I need to remove the 215 and go with a 205. Would you put on a 70 or 75 series tire? Trade-offs? Which do you think would look better?

I will most likely get Diamondbacks.

Thanks

Bruce,

I think the a 205/70 looks best and will absolutely not have any clearance issues, but I am almost totally certain there is no redline available in a 205/70/15. The options are 205/75 or 215/70.

Maybe the new BFG Silvertown made by Coker is better than their old redline tire, which was absolutley terrible in every way. I would go with Diamondbacks if I wanted to have the red stripe.

I have 205/75/R15s from Diamondback on my '65 and they look "meaty" and handle great.
Absolutely no clearance problems. Checked with steering at full lock going up a steep driveway ramp.

The difference in the 70 VS 75 is so small (0.4 10ths side wall and 0.8 10ths hight) dought you notice. Certianly there would be no handling difference.

Why you need to remove the 215s?

205/70/15 would work and look good as others have stated. I have Yokohoma 205/70/15 on AR 15x7 Daisy wheels on my '67 and the car is lowered via Vette Brakes suspension system. The difference in dimensions can vary between manufacturers. Check with Diamondback for the particular tire spec or contact the maker for the specs. Dennis

Diamondback has the 205 70 and 75 redline tires by several manufacturers, including the MX series by Michelin.

To answer the question as to why I want to change from 215s. Tire rub occurs at full right lock steering when turning into a steep incline. The right front was tapped at some time in the past and tweaked the fender, which may be part of the root cause problem. I do not know for sure. Once the fender is correctly repaired I do not want to take any chance of it happening again. I believe the 205s will look correct for the car.

There are dimensional differences from one manufacturer's 205/75's to others. I have Diamond Back 205/75-15 redlines (Firestone) on my '67, and they don't look "skinny" - the tread surface is at least an inch (maybe more) wider than the "Coker Classic" 205/75-15 radials (and the Diamond Backs are round).

(and the Diamond Backs are round) John, you did good getting "around" to state that fact. Dennis

what is wrong with square tires if the car is just a trailer queen for some for those who like to drive their classic car helps if they turn without a thump, thump.
