I decided to take the plunge after reading all the positive posts about the conversions steering box made by Borgeson for the C2 Corvettes. Ordered one from Summit, waited 2 weeks for delivery. Opened the box and disappointed in the actual appearance of the steering box, paint missing, scuffed up, parts look worn, the valve unit where the rag joint attaches looks like it has been antiqued and oder than my 66 box, and the entire unit is covered in oil. According to Webster to re manufacture is to manufacture into a new product. Well I hope the inside of the box is better than the outside appearance.
I'm wondering what others have done or if the steering box received was in the same condition as mine. I have to re paint the unit, and I will paint the entire steering box black. to hide everything. I did not plan to restore the steering box with the rest of the car. Called Borgeson Customer Service and got a "So what", I asked for the paint used and was told to go buy a can of Kyrolon(sp) Black. At least Summit offered me a $25.00 gift certificate to buy paint.
I'm wondering if I can buy a new top unit where the rag joint attaches, I know my car is an antique but I did not want an antiqued painted steering box. Let me know what condition your steering box was in when received and what you did.
I had factory power steering on my car and decided to change to the full power box, eliminating the factory spaghetti system.
After speaking at length with Jeff (Silverslashstreak) I purchased my power steering kit from Corvette Steering (and took the middle man out of the picture by dealing direct). The kit arrived at my home in three days after speaking with the owner of the company and placing the order with him. The box is natural in finish instead of painted. It looks great, it works great.
During the installation process I had a couple of questions. It was nice to be able to call the actual supplier of the product and get my questions answered.
I also ordered my box from Summit racing, but mine came just fine in a natural finish. I checked Corvette Steerings site and if the site is up to date, their box and kit is about $75 more than Summits price. Also, the box from Summit is machined and welded so that it doesn't need extra spacers like Corvette steerings box uses.

I have been thinking about getting this unit too, I'm sorry to hear about your experience so far. Can you post pictures?
The Borgeson representative who posts on this Forum (Jeff) has been very good about answering my emails, I expect he will see this tomorrow and be able to help make things right if anything is out of order.
I got mine from Corvette Steering. It was bare metal. A new gear box.
Tom at Corvette Steering was good to work with. He prefers to talk to folks on the phone. If you pay for kit up front he will pay the shipping. Which for me was $75.

If my unit looked like the one in the photo I would be a happy camper. How do you get a box like the one in the photo, I would pay extra money for one like the photo.

Call Summit and tell them you are not happy with the appearance and you want to exchange it for one that looks nice. They will charge you for another and send you a return shipping label. Do the swap and ship the bad one back for full credit. I have purchased over $10,000 with Summit parts over the years and never, ever had a problem with returns or exchanges. And, I am real picky!
