C2 Lifetime Battery Experience

Melting Slicks
I too purchased one in 1977 and the first time I took the car in for replacement, they gave me so much grief about installing it through the fenderwell that when all the local stores closed I never tried to get another replacement.

Its like any warranty, they run the statistics on how many people keep cars more than 5 years and take a bet on how many batteries they will actually have to give away. I bet they won on the statistics and now the management of the few left in the program costs more than the batteries do.
Sadly, the way J.C. is finally going to beat you all is by going out of business !

I've gotten at least 10 over the years. When Firestone took over we had a drill. They'd let me drive into the service area and I'D change it so they wouldn't have to figure out that the radiator tank had to loosened and moved aside.
After Firestone dropped out the policy got real liberal for a while. Buy ANY battery, ANYWHERE, bring the receipt into a retail Penney store's Customer Service Dept. (no car appearance involved) and they'd give you CASH. Got an Optima that way and it's still working 10 years later.
Now they have to see the original car again. One more reason to get it back on the road!
My receipt, as always, is tucked away in a fireproof safe.

I got a replacement from the Orange JCP
I've been getting replacements from the Orange JCP for about 25 years my last one was about 2 years ago. Firestone on Main St in SA provided the replacement. I did have to educate the customer service folks on the program. They have offered me the buy out for the last 2 replacements but I declined the privilige - the replacement battery cost more than $120.

JC Penney Service Center
I was the service manager at the Oxford Valley Mall (PA) in 1980. Many a battery was replaced. We used to take a branding iron and melt the top of the battery to say "Defective". Even so, if a customer came in with a branded battery and insisted that they purchased it new, the main store manager would authorize the replacement. Even when people brought a gm car in with a ford battery, they would give in and replace the battery.
I left after a year because the auto center was not making a profit, which my pay was based on. Imagine that.
It's sad to see them trying to wiggle out of the warranty that people were promised when they gave my paycheck away to every scammer who came in.

Le Mans Master
my dad had lifetime on mufflers at monkey wards on a 68 olds 442, every year had to get new ones (condensation) as mom drove it short trips dailey. I have some JCP tools that I needed to replace....last time the JCP here in Abilene, Tx gave me a JCP voucher for $30 or I could have gone to sears, I took voucher as I already had couple other like tools and tool was only a $15 rachet. Gone are he good ole days....by the way in the future all batteries will be something like 3 year free replacements and no prorated warranty, I think delco is already doing it.

The JCP batteries in my 71, I would have to replace about every 4 years. Some 11 years ago, I began disconnecting the ground cable each time that I would park it in the garage when I felt that would not be driven for a few days or more. I also began using a Battery Tender,,,now using a Save-A-Battery,,,,. The battery that I had replaced 3 months ago, was some 11 years old.
I find the Save-A-Battery a better charger for several reasons. I checked it out when one of my Battery Tenders failed and I tried to have it taken care under their warranty and got a runaround from the company. In investigating my options I found and checked out Save-A-Battery and found that it looked as a superior product so bought one instead.
Indeed, it turns out that it is.
