I currently have a '63 Muncie in my '65. I found a Muncie for sale locally that has the correct casting 3851325 and tailshaft 3857582. The input shaft number is 3952648 and cover number is 39105020. The trans has a 6 cyl bellhousing and was in a '64 truck. Will this work with my '65 with the different input shaft number? I can just change the side cover, correct? Regards, Larry
Hi John, Thanks for chiming in. Not sure what bellhousing is on the car with the '63 trans. I heard the '63 Muncie and bellhousing were unique to that year. I was planning on just getting a '65 bellhousing to go with the 3851325 trans. I noticed the input shaft number was different on the one I wanted to buy. I didn't want to buy the trans unless it will work. The trans is priced reasonably so I wanted to buy it if it will work. Larry

That's why I asked - the '63 T-10 and Muncie both had a one-year-only small-diameter front bearing retainer, and a one-year-only 421 bellhousing with a smaller hole for it.
403 bellhousings are plentiful and not expensive - you'll need one.
Do you mean input shaft number, or front bearing retainer casting number?
John, Front bearing retainer casting number number. That's what I meant! I have an appointment to look at it tomorrow. Will it work with the 403 bellhousing? If so I will buy it.
John, I plan to change the side cover to the correct 3831707. So, the only thing that won't match is the bearing retainer casting number. As Always thanks John!
