I've looked through alot of threads about horn problems but none seem to deal with the button sticking or continuing contact to after release.
It seems when I tighten the 2 screws and post the button won't disconnect. I don't mind getting a new one but it would be a drag if it turns out to be something else.
Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong or other suspects?
Do you have the correct horn contact? The wrong contact has a longer leg that touches the brush which makes the horn circuit. If you have the longer contact in place, it is possible that the horn is trying to be on all the time. I'm particularly suspicious since you indicate it happens as you tighten down the screws.
What year are you working on?
I had a similar problem with my 65, although it manifested itself in the horn going off in turns.
Here's a photo of the incorrect (left), and correct (right) contact. Note the difference in the leg.

I saw your photo earlier when I was searching.
I should have been more forthcoming - I have a 66 telescopic and I don't have the leg. I don't know enough to say I should have one but I'm pretty sure mine wouldn't use that configuration as I can't see where the leg would go.

Ok, yes that data would have been better
You can ignore my post, it doesn't apply to tele columns.
