Default What Year Spindles?

My car is a '64, L76 w/power brakes.

I was given a nice-looking pair of corvette spindles with spindle arms, caliper mount brackets, dust shields, rotors, calipers, bearings and dust caps - everything to convert over, except MC, proportioning valve & lines.

I don't know if I'm asking the right question, but will all '65 thru '82 disc brakes work on my '64? Should I be concerned with part numbers? I know the spindles will bolt to my '64 A-arms, but will the spindle arms work with my '64 tie rod ends? I think they will, but would like to know for sure. I have also read that one should use a 10# residual valve to the rear brakes?

The spindles have 3948877-GM8AT (?) on one and 3948878-GM1AD (?) on the other. The caliper mount brackets have 3928650-R and 3928649-L on the other (yup, I know the letters stand for left and right).

I've been searching, with no luck, to see what size line I will need to connect to the existing front '64 brake line.

Should I be asking these questions over at the C3 site?

I'll have a pair of completly restored '64 front brakes for sale shortly.

Thanks for any help.

Dave

You should have no trouble with installing the spindles, and the front end parts (tie rod ends) are the same for those years. As for the brake line issues, I would suggest that you change to a dual bowl master and drop the single. That would be the best route.

You will need either a residual valve or adjustable prop. valve for the rear brakes, but I'm not sure what the poundage would be on the residual valve.

All factory Chevrolet disc/drum systems used a 10# residual pressure valve in the rear (drum) system outlet port. You may want to add an adjustable proportioning valve (Wilwood, etc.) in the rear line to avoid "rear brakes first"; the fronts MUST lock first.

...so the residual valve is located within the MC outlet to the rear brakes?
