Default Replace 67 Heater Core Question.

I need some help on this;
I have removed the 6 nuts which attaches the heater core box assembly to the firewall but cant seem to get off the firewall, it almost seems like it's still attached. I have been prying all around but its not moving very much at all.---I'm afraid to strong arm it too much in fear of damaging the unit which appears to be constructed of fiberglass.
Are there any tricks to this or do I need to just continue to keep prying all around with a putty knife or screw driver?
Thank you!
Ralph

Have you removed the nut on the stud on centerline, inside the car, forward of the radio?

Thank you !! I'm all set now !--- I had to remove the hood latch mechanism to allow me to work the putty knife straight down where the box was stuck ---it was just a matter of working a small putty knife to unstick it from the firewall all away around.
Thank you agian!

Default Heater core

Yup, they're fun. Some advice: check over the seals on the ducting and repair as needed while the parts are out.
If your radio or front speaker need any attenion, nows the time.
If your clock needs attention or a quarts upgrade, nows the time.
If your glovebox liner is ratty, a new one is cheap and now is the time.
If the tee fitting under the aluminum tank is corroded, they're cheap and now is the time. Replace the heater hoses if they at all suspect, new clamps too.

While you're at it, repaint, refurb, and get er done with all new gaskets, hoses, clamps, etc!

I'm dreading this on my 69 with AC which is a frontal lobotomy compared to my 65 with no AC.

I replaced the heater core on my 74 454 with AC. I believe they started with a heater core and built the car around it.

Have your replacement heater core pressure tested at a radiator repair shop before you reassemble everything. Do some test fits of the replacement core so that you know if/where the repro core is different (typically the hose attachment elbows/barbs are somewhat shorter & on occasion the "U" brackets that clamp the tank may need to modified due to different sizes). Make sure you use a suitable drop cloth inside the car as the 40+ years of crumbly insulation, extinct insects, dirty coolant and other debris can make a mess of the top of the carpet as it bends upward toward the inner firewall. Leave the cables for the defroster and heater damper in place (disconnect them at the center dash)
