stamp decode
have some of it, but need the blanks filled in....thanks
VIN - 194676S110376
110376 = build sequence
F - Flint
HE - 327/300
the rest is the blank, the "I" is throwing me as I was expecting a number (maybe 12/23 build date?)....
thanks for the help!

Sometimes I was used instead of 1 so that would be 12/23. On the vin , I hope you meant the VIN was 184676S110376 because that is what matches the engine.

The most interesting part is the vin is upside down.

I don't believe they could do it upside down.
There was a "notch" for alignment. And the numbers had a notch for the clip that keeps them in.

So they couldn't hold the tool upside down?

the upside down vin was interesting to me as well, but I am chalking it up to one of those funny little nuances about the car that makes it that much more special....I know it's original as my dad bought the car new in 1966 and I am now the second owner.
I posted a little bit of the story
in this thread as it has been 10 years since the restoration.

Sorry Mike, I'm not 100% familiar with the stamping process.
So what you're saying is that the top of the die was "keyed" somehow such that it required being struck in a certain way?
Sorry, I'm lost.

We have seen other VINs stamped upside down. This apparently happened with a number of big block Camaros from the Van Nuys plant in the late 60s.
Guy at the assembly plant just held the gang holder upside down. No big deal. It is an interesting (and I believe original) anomaly.

There's nothing alarming about the VIN stamp being upside-down; I've seen lots of them. Just depended on how the guy held the gang-holder before he whacked it - it could be done either way.
