Thought about it, but every source said it would take BB hood, which I did not want, so I went with the ZZ4. Wanted the Ramjet, since my car was originally a fuelie. If you get one to fit, I would like to hear from you. Love the ZZ4, but still would like the FI.
I believe Corvette Fever Magazine did a ramjet install article series a couple of years back (may be available online). From recollection, they did require a swap to a big block hood...wasn't even close. I have a build 350 in my '63 restomod with a small block hood. I am considering the new self tuning throttle body FI system from FAST. Recently reviewed in HotRod...looks like a good addition to a ZZ4.
My brother put a ramjet in his 65. The small block hood would clear if you cut part of the under support structure. He chose to go the route of the BB hood, but put the FI badges on the fenders.
Has anyone installed a Ram jet 350 in a midyear? If so how do you like it & did you have any clearance issues with SB hood?
I have one in my 64 and love it. Of course there were issues (like a new gas tank and new fuels lines) but it was worth it. My SB hood did not clear the throttle body. I trimmed back the inner bracing near the TB but could never get the hood to clear. Even after it was painted the hood came in contact with the TB although just slightly. I didn't want to completely cut out the bracing, so I was just running around with the hood open.
Just picked up a repro 67 BB hood and am now in the process of fitting it for paint. This is fine with me as I like the look of that hood better than the stock 64.
not to steal your thread but can any one tell me what dust shield fits a zz4 attached to the original 64 muncie with the stock bellhousing thanks john b
I've been looking at Crates as well lately and am pondering the same dilemma (how to get the thing to fit under a SB hood)...

Easy, cut out the center section of the inner reinforcement. The interference is right where the throttle body bolts to main housing AND where the accelerator cable loops around the pulley. I modified my hood twice, repainted and it still hits. I lowered the center section to a point where I thought "any more and it won't have any strength or purpose".
Actually if you didn't have to worry about originality, you could cut out the center section and not lose any structural integrity. Just look at the 67 BB hood, the reinforcement is only around the outer edge.
Don't forget about installing a return fuel line and an electric pump. And, oh yeah, I had a problem with the humongous balancer forcing the pulley into the frame. I had to run a smaller pulley and even then only have about a quarter inch of clearance (makes putting the belt on a real biotch.
Think about extending the wire on the two ECM plugs so that you can get the ECM inside or away from the engine.
I've got the Edelbrock Pro-Flo XT EFI system in my 63, and I can confirm that it will not fit under the hood. Looked hard at cutting out the underhood support bracing, but that just won't gain enough clearance.
My car's at Mongoose Motorsports near Akron getting fitted with a Grand Sport style 2-hole Nassau hood, but it looks like any BB hood would fit.

I wouldn't worry too much about leaving the Ram Jet 350 ECM in the stock location. I've been running mine mounted on the rear of the engine (stock location) for almost 7 years and 35,000 miles with no problem.

Charles,
I suggested that because of aesthetics, space issues and laptop connectivity, not because the stock location is a dangerous place.
What was your final solution on the fast idle issue?
