Second, I THINK all midyear small block hoods were basically the same up near the firewall.
Third, for power brake 63s, I think I read on here the other day that the standard thumb screw top to the master cylinder was changed to a different, lower profile design that would clear the hood.
Fourth, on power brake 63s that were NOT Z06s, they still had the single piston master cylinder.
The 64-7 style boosters will not fit under a 63 only hood. There is a rekief in the frames of all 64-7 hoods just above the booster shells joint.
In 64, the relief is added BUT one cannot use a dual master cylinder as the 65-7 hoods have an additional relief added in the cross brace of the hood frame where it passes over the top of the front of the cap on the dual units.
That relief is not there in 63 or 64 hoods. Be careful what outfit you are dealing with when asking for fitment advice. I know of one case where the customer was told to bend the brackets down so it would fit.
I bought a conversion from CPP that was a booster and dual reservoir master cylinder. When I looked at the bracket I called them and told them it wouldn't fit. They told me it would and I was trying to use the wrong bolt holes. They told me I was to use the top 2 bolts on the master that was in the car and drill 2 new holes for the top ones on the new bracket.
I accepted this as fact, but I haven't put it in yet. If I have to alter my hood, I will be angry. If they don't take it back I'll try selling it on eBay or using just the master cylinder without the booster. I bought it about a year ago and never installed it. It makes me mad when a vendor gives you bad info because they don't know the differences between '63 and older mid-years.
Many thanks. The last thing I want to do is start the kabuki dance of replacing hoods, bending brackets and drilling holes. If anyone comes across a single kit that comes w/all the right stuff and it fits, pls advise. Thanks.
There are other style boosters available from the same vendor mentioned here that are not of stock design but are functional and will clear the 63-4 hoods and the associated problems.
