Did a search, but didn't find anything specific to a mid year.
I have a heated garage with a Racedeck type floor, the Vet convertable is away till mid May. In past I would lift it high enough that the tires were off the ground. I used 2 jack stands behind the front wheels, 2 jack stands in front of the rear wheels, 1 jack stand under the large steel support to the rear of the rad under ther fan.
For the past few years I have just let it sit on ground, someone had said that lifting it off ground for over 5 months was not good for the suspention and could contribute to body cracks. I have also been told that I should be lifting it just high enough to take some of the weight off the suspention and tires.
I can move the car back and forth to change the tire position every now and again, however I spend Jan to May in Fla so for that 3 month period it would be stationary.
So on ground or off ground????
If off ground what is the best support position for the jack stands??
If a car is going to get body cracks it would happen as you drive it over irregular surfaces, so setting jack stands in the factory recommended locations should not hurt the body. Another choice would be, take the tires off and then put stands under each rotor, but don't forget to put a couple of lug nuts on each rotor. By doing this you won't flat spot the tires and the suspension will not be fully extended. Dennis
I'm with JohnZ. We're not talking about letting the car sit for years so why bother? Also, I'm not in a position where I have tons of garage parking spaces so having the car on the ground makes it nice if I need to move it for any reason.
If you can just roll it back a little and later forward, you should not have any problems with flat spots. I doubt you would have problems regardless for winter only. But roll it once in awhile if you are worried.
That Midyearvette is quite a guy and always willing to help.
Just leave the Vette on the floor. That's the way I've been storing mine since 1991 and have had no problems.
We have left our cars w/o placing on jack stands for at least 5 months of Michigan winters and have not had a problem for over 10 years. Let it sit as is and enjoy the warm Florida weather!
