What are the different OEM applications for the brown D309 (non-R)distributor cap. Most people seem to agree that it may have been originally installed on L-88's. Anyting else, Corvette or otherwise? I did hear once that it may have come on the L-72's.

Wrong Guys.
That cap came on my 1965 Fueler with TI. It has copper contacts
and is brown in color.
That's the real deal. Here is one for the old guys. It also came with
Red Antifreeze in it. Chevy sold that Antifreeze in round tin cans for a couple of years until it was changed to green.

Ken:
Not absolutely certain, but I think the brown alkyd distributor cap you remember had the "short" terminals and went by another D-xxx number. I remember the FI guys saying that the FI cap was short tower design.
The red antifreeze you remember is probably DuPont TELAR antifreeze. It was marketed during this time period and obviously used by GM and maybe others......it supposedly would turn yellow when the time came to change. Didn't always happen.....my radiator went out before the color change. Anyway, the TELAR antifreeze disappeared from the marketplace in the early 1970's.

The red TELAR anti-freeze was never used as original factory fill at St. Louis, although the dealer may have changed it. St. Louis used the same 9985012 green anti-freeze used at every other Chevrolet assembly plant (my Chevrolet Production Engineering Group designed and installed the anti-freeze dispensing equipment at St. Louis).

Thanks for the education. Apparently Ken did not remember correctly. I didn't know one way or the other. I was driving F*rds and M*pars during this period.
Guys;
I am positive of the Antifreeze. I picked up my 65 Fueler from the transport company at the new car facility of Progressive Chevrolet Co, Massillon, Ohio. I drained it out a couple of weeks later, when I pulled the heads to CC them. Put it back in and added a little Red Anti. bought from the same dealer in the cans. I still have that Black Fueler today.
Took it to Bloomington this year and came home with all they had to give Gold, Survivor, and Benchmark.
