I looked but could not find this in the archives. For those of you with offset trailing arms, what did you find that you could do with rear wheel and tire sizes? I have replaced the beautiful small flares with stock quarters. Thanks
255/50 17's on the rear, with an 8" wheel. I think a wider tire could be used if you had the exact backspacing and everything was just right. I really believe a 285 would fit under the right circumstances.
My signature has been censured on non-babe threads because of my comparison of midyear, shark, and C-5 rear ends to female posteriors.
C2's were compared to Sung Hi Lee's rear in a thong bikini, C3's were compared to Brooke Burke's rear in a bikini, and a C5's rear was compared to a rather large female with her bathing suit wedged up there, reminiscent of a beached whale. I think it might have offended a VERY few people, but it was not meant to be controvercial or sexually oriented, just an interesting way of comparing my view of the deterioration of corvette styling over time.
It can still be seen on threads clearly marked [Babe] when I make replies.
All comments that I read on the signature were in favor of it or thought it was pretty funny, some even considered it "classic".
I have 255/60/15 on mine but I have them on a KO wheel that is too narrow for the tire and they are ready to hit the spring. I think the spring is the limiting factor after you get to this size. Mine are about an inch from the spring. You need to shorten the spring by 3/4 or so on each side. Toms Differential has a shortened single leaf for $85.00 I have a composite spring and I am assuming it is the same width as the 7 or 9 leaf. They advertise that you can run 10 inch with those offset arms.. ??
The rear spring is a problem with the 15" wheels, but when you get to the 17" then you avoid the spring issue, because the wheel inner edge is now below the end of the spring. The larger diameter allows the wheel to avoid this inteference, and a wheel with greater backspacing will now have more room on the inside and take advantage of the offset trailing arms. The sway bar now becomes the limiting factor.
