Hello, how to alighn the trailing arms on a C2 when the shims are gone?
Can it be done by measerments at home rather then sending it out.
Thanks and have a happy Thanksgiving to all.
Frank.
Do you know for certain that it had shims to start with or have they been lost? I guess you could get it in the ballpark enough to drive it and have it done. Are you doing any front suspension work. If so, you might as well have an EXPERIENCED shop do the work. A full alignment is an experienced shop is generally not cheap, but is worthwhile. Dennis
Yep, there are at least a couple of folks on the forum who align their own rear wheels. I think Magicv8 is one of those, do a search on his recent posts, I think he recently went over the procedure.
For me, I'd take it to a REPUTABLE shop that is experienced in aligning the '63-'82 Corvette IRS. Costs a bit, but worth it in my opinion, for a quality job.

They make a system using a threaded shaft and lock nuts on both sides, that do away with the shims. If you have no shims, someone may have swapped out the originals for this, or they fell out. Setting your alignment IMHO is best left to pros. Adjustments must be made at ride height and after rolling a small distance to get the true orientation, and you need those turn tables under each wheel and lasers for accuracy. It can be done with a drive on lift, lots of string, and a ton of patience...

Are you talking about the Guldstrand alignment system? I'd be interested in seeing some details on the system you have described if it is different. Any source of information?
Thanks you all, I will check the for the possibillities given. If there were no shims and my rear tires wear perfectly even after about 6000 miles now mostly at highway speeds, can I believe the rear alighnment to be OK ? Thanks, Frank
