I'm going to guess and say you are referring to the "Bird Cage" which is the underlying steel structure of a Corvette body that the fiberglass panels are attached to. These are also prone to rust as are the frames in some climates. Especially around the windshield area.
ps: Picture stolen from another forum member who did an incredible resto job.
I'm not familiar with all the terminology so can someone tell me what is the bird nest?
I think what you are referring too is the bird cage, it is the framework of the cabin of the vet that all fiberglass is attached too...
Check out this link it will give an idea of what i am talking about.
Last year I helped a club member strip his birdcage on his C2. The stripper got messy, so we put newspaper around the floor. I then started to laugh, Mark started laughing too! Afterwords he said what was so funny, I said when we are done, make sure you change the newspaper under the birdcage. We laughed again..... It helps when you had a few beers! ha ha ha!!!
After reading some threads on this forum about bird cage rust I went out and looked my son's 64 coupe ( I have it while he is at sea in the Navy) from under the driver side dash and pulled the glove box. I think things looked very good. I could not see any rust and thought I could see an odd dull green paint (which I assume is the original primer.)
Does anyone have any decent pictures taken from the inside of the car that shows a good example of the way the bird cage that can bee seen from there should look and maybe someone else has a picture of a rusted bird cage for comparison. I realize there is a whole lot more than just what can be seen from looking inside a assembled car from the floorboard but it is a start.
One reason I am asking the question is that the last time it sat out during a rain storm we got a soaked floorboard so I thought it might be the birdcage. However, it looked pretty good to me from the inside so I wanted to get some info and.
