Default Ready For Initial Start-Up

I'm wiring my engine for its initial start-up in the bare frame. I'm using Pertronix Ignitor II with an MSD Blaster coil. Am I correct not to use a resister and get straight 12v to the coil?

I've got the diagram provided by one of you knowledgeable guys showing stock wiring, Pertronix II with stock rated coil and Pertronix II with Flamethrower?MSD coil. I see where the Pertronix II with a stock rated coil uses the resistor, then the Pertronix II with the Flamethrower /MSD just seems to use the resistor as a connector for the ignition to the + side of the coil. Does this indicate there is no need for a resistor when using the Flamethrower/MSD coil?

I know I read a post on this issue in the past, but can't find it in the Search. Please have patience and 'knowledge me up" on this.

Thanks,
Dave

In order to use the Pertronix II without the ballast resistor (supposedly) you have to have a 'low-resistance' coil (e.g. 0.6 ohm or 0.3 ohm). At one point the Pertronix techies said you had to leave the resistor in if using the stock coil. However, I have run the car with the stock coil with the resistor both IN and OUT at various times - the '61 never missed a beat either way.

If I were you I'd bypass the resistor as the full 12V to the Pertronix II unit is best. A Pertronix III MUST have a full 12V!!

I have been running my 64 just as you are asking, I went direct to coil bypassing the resistor.

The Pertonix unit (red wire) always wants a full 12 volts. The resistor/no resistor issue is the coil. Check with MSD and see if their coil will live with 12 volts or requires resistor-reduced voltage like a stock coil, and wire it accordingly.

The Ignitor II will run with less than 12V and I've seen them wired that way...not optimal though.
1/2 way down this article from the Pertronix site will tell you how to tell if your coil will work with the Pertronix:

Thanks guys. I'll email MSD right now.

Have a very Merry Christmas.

John - don't hurt your back shoveling snow up there in the bitter Michigan north.
