Default Engine numbers

Decoding engine

I am trying to find out what i have for an engine in my 61 i bought in Oct./09 This is my first corvette.
I know it's not original, previous owner says 327. Here is a list of numbers i have taking off the engine.

block: 378870, passenger side: K 3 1 front pad: FII08S
heads: 8795896 with a 163 stamp
Intake: 3875954 GM 3 T 1245
Distributor: 1110891 0L21
Carburator: rochester quadrajet 7037218 BD 2991

The engine runs and drives fine, just wondering what it is.
Also, thanks for the answers on my valve cover question thread,
Still looking for correct looking driver quality finned covers.

Thanks,
Mark

You have a 250 hp with powerglide 327 engine from an early 62 full size car with a later Q-jet intake and a 61 dual point distributor.

Default 327

327 from a standard chevy with 896 power pack heads 1.74" intake valve. Non hi-performance. A flint block by the F stamp vs a Tonawanda cast block. Only Flint cast blocks were used in vettes.

Cast # would be K 3 61 on a Tonawanda block and have a square iron plug threaded in the right front of the block.

That is a very early 327 block, good for someone looking for an early engine for a 62 vette.

The 891 distributor has no vacuum advance? Distributor cap have a 'window' for accessing the points?

891 was used on early vettes. dec 21 1960. Might be original to the car not the engine. Someone will double check that application.

Others will give more info.

How do you come up with the date of block?
The "F" means Vette engine?
also, can someone give me an example of a numbers matching block would be ? my vin #10867S108645 Would an original block say F8645 ?

Thanks,
Mark

The F means that the engine was assembled in the Flint Michigan engine assembly plant. Flint built millions of small block engines, not just Corvette engines.

The next four digits are the month and day the engine was assembled. 0131 would be January 31st.

The final character(s) indicate the application for the engine. In this case C= 250 hp with powerglide 327 engine from an early 62 full size car as stated earler.

The derivative of the VIN is a separate stamp applied at the car assembly plant.
