Default Liquid Ebony

I have lacquer paint on the 65 and I've been told that the best wax for it is Liquid Ebony. Does anyone know where I can get some or if it is even still available.

I've buffed lacquer with rubbing compound and then finished it off with a foam pad and Liquid Ebony....at the time that was the ultimate shine. That was what most people used 25 years ago before the new generation of products were developed.

It is a swirl remover/glazing compound. Not a wax. I gives no protection to the paint. I have about 1/2 qt. from back in the 70's. It was good then, outdated now. There are many, many products out there today that are far superior.

That is great stuff for swirl removal! When I ran out I never bought anything else to try. What is better now?

I have heard so much about it. The old timers talk about how good it is (was). If you want to sell a bottle please PM me as I would just like to try some to say I did. Most paint stores are speechless when you say you have lacquer paint. They don't know what to do. They don't understand how high maintenance lacquer paint is. I am sure that there are better more modern products out there today but they are all made for modern base coat / clear coat paints.

It was the only thing available in the old days for swirl removal. It MUST be used with a buffer which can do lots of damage if you are not skilled using one. Today's products are far superior and it doesn't matter which type of paint you use them on. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time looking for some liquid ebony.

Thank you for the info. Having never used it I am happy to get this feedback. It is like a lot of the things from the old days, folk lore.

any modern glase or swirl remover will work great on lac. i've been painting black lac for 40 years still use it with great results . all the modern compounds and pollish work well . i have tried pretty much everything from all suppliers . i will add nothing lays down as flat as lac.or as deep.

Brings back memories. Liquid Ebony was the hot lick years ago. I still have 1/2 a bottle of it on the shelf. Must be 15 years old.

It is/was designed for "buffer" use, not hand application.

Around the same time 3M made a pink colored stuff..also a glaze/swirl remover. Can't remember the name of that product.

That's it.

Couldn't remember the name. Back in the late 60's and early to mid 70's, that was the hot lick for hand application.

Used to have some of that around too.

I never knew it was for machine application. I got mine from a guy that did hand painted pin striping. I used it to polish small spots out by hand all the time. Mostly on the tank of my bike. It would get out small scratches from the tank bag. Best thing I ever used.

wow....brings back memories.....I worked in the summer during college at an Oldsmobile dealership and prepped new cars. We used liquid ebony on everything with a buffer.....it would take a black car and make it look like it was car show ready!

Great stuff in the day......

In the Viper plant (where "show paint" was the paint appearance standard), we final-polished and swirl-removed with 3M "Finesse-It".
