For those who have done it, how much aggravation to put rocker chanels in my 64 vert? The body is off the frame. Any direction would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Fred Z.
its easy....
On my 66 i took off the rear tires to allow the rocker panels to slide on...i imagine your 64 is the same....just take your time to keep from scartching the paint as you slide them on....
Thanks for the reply Jack, but I'm refering to the inner rocker chanels. (part of the bird cage) Mine are rusty and need to be replaced. They appear to be welded front and rear and riveted down the inside.
Fred,
Although this is for a 1960, maybe this can give you some ideas.
The supports running through my rocker panels were mostly rusted away, including the ends that connect to the body mounts. Like yours, what was left of them were rivited along their length to the body. The only way to totally replace them required separating the floor pan from the side, so I choose to reinforce what was left. Here's what I started with:
I drilled holes along the entire length
And then welded a piece of 1/16" steel to it. I then was able to bolt the necessary brackets to the front and the back.
I then reinstalled the inner fiberglass rocker panel.
Hope this helps.

Fred, new rocker channels and the support brackets are available for both Paragon Reproductions and Zips. Not cheap thou unless you can get by with just the brackets. Good luck and Happy New Year!!!
As you gathered its a MAJOR job...My 66 had swiss cheese for both rear mounts. It took some time but I had a friend fab up some patch plates with 1 1/4 in holes to fit inside the channel, and welded some reinforcements up the vertical jam piece.
Maybe somebody could recommend a welder/fabricator in your area?
Yep. That about sums it up. Not a job for the weak at heart. If it's only the rear mount that is gone you can section a piece in. You can remove the rocker cover by drilling out the rivets and removing the B pillar cover. You can cut the B pillar cover and glass it back in. Ether way it's not an easy job for the average guy.
