Default Steering Column Coupler

My coupler must be repaired and I have two possibilities: Firstly I can use a repair kit offered by most resellers. But I have been told that the rag joint as part of the repair kits is not of the best quality (not so much wire included). Secondly, I can use a complete steering column coupler assembly which is much more expansive. But I have been told that in this case the rag joint is of (much) better quality (to my knowledge the complete set is only supplied by Corvette Central). Does anyone of you have experience with kits and the quality of rag joints - and who is providing the best rag joint quality????? The upper and lower part of my coupler assembly is OK.
Thanks for info and a Happy 2010!

Default Rag joint

I would bite the bullet and get the correct rag joint. I know Long Island Corvette Supply and Dr. Rebuild has them. Brakes and steering are areas that it does not pay to skimp on. Jerry

Best to buy a new one or have a reliable person rebuild with correct parts. Too many things have gone bad with the kits. From past posts, the kits are questionable at best. Rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks for your comments. All of you confirmed what I more or less knew. I have to invest $ 200 for the complete coupler assembly and not ¢ 20 for a repair kit - although my upper and lower parts are OK! I agree better be safe than sorry!

Corvette Steering (www.corvettesteering.com) can rebuild it correctly; give them a call.
