Default steering column upgrade

Did a search, nothing there, has anyone been able to purchase a collapsible intermediate shaft for a steering column that will work on a '65 Vet? I would like to be able to get one for my own piece of mind. Unfortunately there are not that many '67 columns to be had, will C3's work? Will be adding a Burgeson PS box and this would be a good time to get one

Flaming River with tilt and elimantes all the junk turn signals parts. A terrific upgrade.

Nobody makes a retrofit collapsible steering column that I'm aware of, most likely because of the potential liability issues. The only viable approach is a '67 column (along with the pedal support, intermediate bracket, capsule bracket, and wiring changes to accommodate the '67 turn signal switch and hazard flasher switch).

ok thanks, just thought that it would be a good time to do it all but sourcing the 67 column and related parts may be a problem up here in the frozen north ...

Yea, I looked around too for the same question and came up with nothing.

I'm rather surprised that Flaming River and other vendors don't have to (due to government regulations) have collapsible steering columns.

I'm not sure of the differences between the '67 and the '68 column but I know there are some subtle ones. Maybe slight enough that a '68 column would work in your car, which would expand the possibilities a bit.

If just the center shaft is what you want, I believe Borgeson makes collapsible shafts that you can spline for your application. Might be worth a look.

If you are ordering your box from Borgeson, there are less expensive places... like Summit.

They are a licensed dealer for Borgeson and Borgeson themselves told me about their dealers. I called Borgeson for a lot of technical questions and they were VERY helpful and responsive. I ordered the box and rag joint from Summit (rag backordered) and I'm waiting for the PS pump pulley and alternator pulley from Willcox. Should be shipped this week and then I THINK I have everything except the rag. Actually I should probably say "I have enough parts to get started and find out what I don't have".<grin>

Good luck and please, let us know what you do for your column. BTW, PM me if you want to see how I rebuilt my '67 column. Might help you some.
